About the
BIPS Initiative
The Building Inclusive Peace in Sudan (BIPS) initiative is a locally driven peacebuilding initiative funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
Its goal is to strengthen community resilience, inclusion, and social cohesion amid Sudan's protracted conflict.
A Critical Response to Conflict
Following the April 2023 conflict, Sudan entered one of its most destructive civil wars. This crisis has fragmented communities, displaced millions, and amplified hate speech.
Amid state collapse, grassroots peace actors are essential for sustaining coexistence. BIPS responds by equipping these local actors to analyze, prevent, and transform conflicts, counter harmful narratives, and foster trauma-sensitive reconciliation.
Our Approach
BIPS empowers youth, women, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to lead conflict transformation. We use a multi-layered and adaptive approach combining community-driven peacebuilding, digital resilience, and trauma-informed engagement.
Localization and Co-Design
Prioritizing local ownership and design.
Capacity Strengthening and Mentorship
Building skills in conflict management and dialogue.
Digital and Media Engagement
Enhancing community resilience to online manipulation.
Trauma Healing Support
Integrating trauma-sensitive methodologies into all activities.
Inclusion and Representation
Embedding gender, age, and diversity lenses to ensure equitable participation.
